What Happens On Your First Visit With Us?
1. Initial Consult
Your first visit will involve a 1 hour consultation with our dentists. You will be able to ask any questions and concerns regarding your snoring and/or sleep apnoea.
Each consultation involves:
- Comprehensive dental, oral, airway and jaw examinations
- Detailed information and education regarding snoring, sleep apnoea, teeth grinding and oral appliance therapy
- Treatment options explained
- Example demo models of different oral appliances
- Referral for sleep study for diagnosis (if required)
If you decide to go ahead with the appliance, dental impressions can be taken on the same day. We would require a deposit for the appliance on top of the consultation fee. The fee of the appliance includes an entire 12 months of appointments.
You may need to undergo a sleep study prior to treatment. This can be arranged at the time of your appointment. A follow-up appointment will be made to discuss the results.
2. Impressions And Records
Once a suitable oral appliance has been agreed upon, a set of dental impressions (moulds) and measurements will be taken. These records will be sent to the laboratory to start making your customised oral appliance. All appliances used are made in Australian dental laboratories. Turnaround time is approximately 2-3 weeks depending on the appliance design.
3. Fitting Your Oral Appliance
When your appliance has arrived back from the laboratory, you will see our dentists for a 30 minute fitting appointment. The appliance will be checked for comfort and adjusted if needed. Detailed instructions will be given on proper maintenance and care. Initially some time will be needed to get used to the appliance.
The majority of our patients commence using their appliance all night from the start, with little or no side effects.
4. Ongoing Support
Four weeks after receiving your appliance, we would like to review you to ensure your appliance is working fine. You should expect to receive some immediate relief from your snoring, tiredness and other symptoms which increases over time.
Your appliance fee covers an entire 12 months worth of appointments. You are more than welcome to come as often as you like during this time to ensure your appliance is working for you.
After the initial 12 months, we would like to see you annually for ongoing support to ensure the appliance is working well for you.
